For those of you who aren’t sure exactly what the franchise tag is, it’s basically a one year contract that binds a player going into free agency to the team which they were on the last year. The contract salary is made up of an average of the top 5 at that players positions. Here are the players who got franchised.

49ers- Dashon Goldson              Bears- Matt Forte

Bengals- Mike Nugent                Broncos- Matt Prater

Browns- Phil Dawson                 Buccaneers- Connor Barth

Cardinals- Calais Campbell        Chiefs- Dwayne Bowe

Colts- Robert Mathis                  Cowboys-  Anthony Spencer

Eagles- DeSean Jackson           Falcons- Brent Grimes

Giants- Steve Weatherford         Jaguars- Josh Scobee

Lions- Cliff Avril                         Patriots- Wes Welker

Raiders- Tyvon Branch               Ravens- Ray Rice

Redskins-  Fred Davis               Saints- Drew Brees

Titans- Micheal Griffin

Other than the kickers and one punter who received the franchise tag, there are really no surprises on this list. One person on this list who was a surprise was Drew Brees. It’s reported that Brees is very unhappy with the tag, and refuses to sign it, because he wants a long-term deal which he deserves. Here’s a list of 10 players who I think are more important. Ones that didn’t get the franchise tag-

1.Vincent Jackson

2. Marques Colston

3. Reggie Wayne

4. Brandon Lloyd

5. Mario Williams

6.Cortland Finnegan

7.Matt Flynn

8.Mike Wallace

9.Peyton Hillis

10.Pierre Garcon

This is a list of the top players who will be free agents during the off-season. Of these players Vincent Jackson will probably be the most sought after offensive player in the off-season. Mario Williams will be the most sought after defensive player, with Cortland Finnegan close behind. All of these names though will be overshadowed by the latest free agent, Peyton Manning, who will probably rule the free agent market headlines throughout the off-season. With all these big names though, it’s bound to be an exciting off-season.
